A ROYAL celebration is taking place in a Tesco store in neighbouring Warfield this week, and it’s all in a good cause.
The Coronation-themed events are taking place in the Bracknell North branch of the supermarket, with proceeds shared between the British Heart Foundation, Diabetes UK and Cancer Research UK.
For people with regal aspirations, the community-minded store will have a glittering golden throne for people to sit in, wear a crown and have their photo taken.
The throne will be in the store for the run-up to the Coronation and the weekend itself.
There will also be a Design Your Coronation Plate competition for children. The decorated plates will then be displayed in the store foyer for other shoppers to see.
To finish the Coronation week off, staff will link up with Warfield Environment Group on Monday, May 8, to take part in a community-improving litter to mark the nationwide Big Help Out event.
Community-conscious members of the public are welcome to join in, and the pick takes place from 10.30am to noon.
Amanda Eversden, the community champion for Tesco’s Bracknell North store, said: “The Coronation is a huge event for the nation and we’ve really been getting into the patriotic spirit for it.
“For the majority of people, this will be the first Coronation they’ve seen and they will remember it for a long time, so here at the store we want to be part of making it memorable for our community.
“The aim is to have a lot of fun, do some good for the community and raise as much money as we can for a local charity.”
She continued: “In the past, whenever we’ve run fundraising events for a good cause, our shoppers have been very generous and supportive, and I’d like to say thank you to them again for helping us to make our Coronation events a big success.”
King Charles will be crowned alongside the Queen Consort in Westminster Abbey at 11am on Saturday, May 6.
It will form part of a long weekend filled with nationwide celebrations for the new monarch, ranging from street parties to concerts.
The King ascended the throne after the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September last year, making him the oldest new monarch in British history.
