WOODLEY Town Council has written to local schools following an increase in anti-social behaviour from young people during the summer holidays.
The Garden of Remembrance was closed in the evenings during August after planting was damaged and access was obstructed.
Graffiti is a major problem throughout Woodford Park, while the walls, windows and toilets of the Oakwood Centre were also scrawled on.
There was also an overnight break-in at the Coronation Hall with damage caused to a door frame and a boiler pressure gauge.
In an effort to engage the local community, the Council’s Planning and Community Committee has written to all town schools to make them aware of the anti-social behaviour and ask schools and parents to discuss with young people the importance of respecting parks and facilities and the community.
The letter states: “While the Committee recognises that these young people are generally of Secondary school age or older, and those of school age will attend a variety of settings both inside and outside of Woodley, we are kindly asking all schools within Woodley, to raise this matter with students and parents to highlight the issue of anti-social behaviour, and to ask that everyone remains considerate of our parks and facilities which are used extensively by the community.”
