PAVING THE WAY is the title of the first new entry in this week’s playlist, and it’s a song we think you’ll love.

It’s from Rocket Kings, a Reading-based band you might have seen live. If you haven’t, there are several opportunities to do so, and we think after you’ve heard their song you’ll want to save the date.

It’s just one of 10 great tracks for you to listen, for free, on Spotify.

Simply head to https://bit.ly/rawsoundstodayand enjoy the music.

There is also a Facebook page and group chat that bands and music fans can tap into. You can search for RaW Sounds Today and it will come up.

Rocket Kings – Paving the Way

Those wonderful purveyors of uke pop have released their brand new album, of which this is the title track, and it’s a fine collection of fun uplifting catchy songs.

The band from Reading have been playing a number of gigs and festivals in the area during the summer and they will be live at The Falkners Arms in Fleet this Friday (6) and at The Castle Tap in Reading on December 9 – https://www.facebook.com/rocketkings/

The March Violets – Snake Dance

Here’s yet another of those classic bands being brought to play in the area by Club Velocity.

The March Violets came out of the Leeds goth scene in the 90s and were regularly high in the indie charts of the time. This is one of those singles.

Don’t miss the chance to see them live on Thursday, October 26 at Face Bar Reading where they will be supported by local faves The Go Go Cult – https://www.facebook.com/TheMarchViolets

That Joe Payne – My Heart

Here’s a great song from a friend of the area (he’s played at Wokingham Festival a couple of times) and it has a James Bond theme feel.

It’s from the brand new album by That Joe Payne called Bread and Circuses.

We were lucky to attend the album launch show where Joe and his excellent band of musicians played the whole album live. It was a brilliant night and it’s a great album – https://www.thatjoepayne.com/

Trim – Restart

We featured a song from the album Resolve by this band created by local songwriter, Chris Trim a few months ago but we thought we’d feature another because the song, Restart, has such a great hook. We can’t stop playing it.

The band will be live at Login Lounge, Camberley this Saturday, October 7 – https://www.trimmusic.co.uk/

UK Subs – Tomorrow’s Girls

A classic from the band that visited Reading’s Sub89 and performed a fun and exciting gig as part of their farewell tour. We couldn’t make that show so went along the night before to see them in Southampton and they were excellent there too.

It was great to see a solo set there also by TV Smith of The Adverts – https://uksubs.co.uk

Rila’s Edge – Gold

We popped along to this Wokingham band’s Reading Facebar show recently and it was another brilliant performance. They play further afield this month with shows in London and Bristol.

Check out their social media for info – https://www.rilasedge.com/

Lilac – Touch

It’s been a while since the brilliant Losing Myself (In You) single from Lilac which made our top 20 of 2022. However, it was worth waiting for more of their excellent floral indie sound with this new single – https://lilacband.co.uk/

AlphaLine – Paper Cups

They performed a great set at Wokingham Festival and have released their debut EP, Polarity, from which this is taken – https://www.alphalineband.com/

Danny Lampo – Puutu

Danny is a skilled footballer with the Reading Tigers and also a talented musician creating music with an Afrobeats dancehall influence such as this new single, which also features guest musician, Article Wan – https://www.dannylampo.com/

Selina and the Howlin Dogs – Midnight Man

Here’s a song from the new album Biscuit City by those wonderful local blues rockers – https://www.selinaandthehowlindogs.com/
