Age UK Berkshire run activities and groups for people living with dementia and their carers in Wokingham Borough.
These include singing cafes, general activity cafes and walks, run by our staff and volunteers.
We are looking for more volunteers to support with these activities which are held around Wokingham Borough (including Wokingham Town Centre, Grazeley, Earley, Shinfield, Woodley).
The role involves; helping to set up the sessions and tidy afterwards (cafes) talk to the clients and make sure they feel welcome and valued, making tea and coffee, and serving cakes/biscuits, joining in with the activities and having fun.
Volunteers would need to commit to a minimum of one session a month. Time commitment would be approximately three hours per session. Travel expenses are reimbursed.
The satisfaction of making a difference to the happiness and lives of those living with dementia and their carers in the Borough.

Thrive is the UK’s leading charity using social and therapeutic horticulture (STH), which is the process of using plants and the garden to improve physical and mental health, as well as communication and thinking skills.
The garden can also be used as a safe and secure space to develop a person’s ability to mix socially, make friends, and learn practical skills that will make them more independent.
The client support volunteers support our horticultural practitioners in delivering a high level of service to individuals with a disability or ill health.
These individuals (client gardeners) come to our gardening programmes with a range of disabilities and health conditions and the programmes they are following will vary from general gardening to working towards horticultural qualifications.
The Client Support volunteer role is to develop social interaction with client gardeners and encourage them to work with and talk with others, to work alongside client gardeners encouraging them in their work but not doing the tasks for them and supervising, with others, the client gardener group over lunch breaks and occasionally when the practitioners are engaged in assessing and related paperwork.
Berkshire Lowland Search & Rescue (BLSAR) is compised of volunteers and one of the 34 Lowland Rescue teams, which provide specialist Search and Rescue services to the emergency services across the UK.
We are the oldest Lowland Rescue team and have been providing services to the people of Berkshire since 1980. The primary role of the team is to assist Thames Valley Police in the search for high-risk missing vulnerable persons in Berkshire and the surrounding counties.
Our services are completely FREE, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In addition, we provide civil contingency support for local authorities and the statutory emergency services.
We need a Public Relations/Media Lead to develop and lead an existing small team, refining and delivering the BLSAR media plan.
The person appointed will manage and co-ordinate the team, taking responsibility for social media, media library, publicity material and liaison with press, TV and radio stations, with the overall objective of enhancing our profile and fundraising capability.
The role also holds a place on the BLSAR Leadership Team and is therefore directly involved in influencing day-to-day running of the team.
Applicants will have Public Relations and/or Media Management experience, good communication skills, and a history of good team working and, subject to a DBS check, selection will be by interview.
The position is unpaid and completely flexible in hours, thereby it will suit home working. There is no requirement to be an operational member (active in searches) of the team to fulfil this role, though applicants may also become operational if they wish.
