READING FC legend and former women’s manager Kelly Cousins (formerly Chambers) has admitted that it ‘breaks her heart’ to see the club in crisis.

The Royals have suffered over the past few years under the ownership of Dai Yongge which has caused issues across the whole club.

The women’s team have been affected dramatically since suffering relegation from the Women’s Super League.

As part of the cuts, the owner took the decision to switch the women’s team to a part-time basis which has seen their results decline.

Reading managed to hold their own and fight with the biggest team’s in the country despite working with a significantly smaller budget and staked their claim as one of the strongest women’s sides in England.

Former manager Kelly Cousins (née Chambers) spent more than two decades with Reading, including eight years as manager before she departed in the summer to join National Women’s Soccer League side Utah Royals as sporting director.

She took to twitter to send her support to the Reading fans. She said: “This breaks my heart to see.

“So much hard work has gone into this club and is still going into this club.

“I just hope something is sorted soon for the sake of the staff, players and the fans. It’s heartbreaking.”
