A NORREYS church is running a six week Lent Course looking at ways to tackle need.
Called, Act On Poverty, the course has been put together by Christian Aid, and shares examples of what groups around the country are doing to alleviate poverty in their areas.
It will take place over six weeks during Lent, at All Saints Church.
“Act On Poverty looks at the issues from a Christian perspective, but I’d like to think that anyone with an interest in social justice could find something in it, whether or not they have a faith,” said All Saints Associate Priest, The Revd Hannah Higginson.
“People can hear talks from anti-poverty workers and activists, and see examples of practical action being taken around the country to support people in need.
Mrs Higginson continued: “We can tend to think of poverty as being somewhere else in the world.
“But of course, there is plenty of local need.
“This course shares some inspiring ways in which groups are getting to grips with hardship.
“There are videos and audio clips, and we look at a Bible verse each week as part of the study, but you don’t have to be a Christian to join us.”
There are two opportunities to participate each week, on Wednesdays, or Thursdays.
“I’ll be leading one course, and my colleague, The Revd Becky Medlicott, will run the other,” said Mrs Higginson.
“It doesn’t matter if you can’t make all the sessions – they work as a series, but they do also stand alone.
“Anyone is welcome, and people can just turn up.”
The Lent Course will take place at All Saints Church, Wiltshire Road.
Sessions begin on Wednesday, February 21 and Thursday, February 21, and continue each week until March 27 and 28.
Wednesday evenings start at 7.30pm, and Thursday mornings begin at 9.45am.
