A BOROUGH garden centre will open its doors for a birthday celebration this month.
Colin Squire OBE, chairman emeritus, and his daughter, Sarah, Squire’s chair, warmly welcome customers to join members of the family for a special Anniversary Tea Party in July, celebrating the fifth anniversary of Squire’s Wokingham.
Customers will be treated to a glass of fizz on arrival, and an afternoon tea menu especially put together for the occasion, with an assortment of sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, petit fours, and tea.
Music from Surrey harpist Cecily Beer will set the scene for a memorable afternoon.
Sarah Squire, chair of Squire’s Garden Centres, said: “My father and I are very much looking forward to celebrating this very special milestone in Wokingham.
“We aim to be at the heart of the communities we serve, and our family and our colleagues are particularly delighted to be able to share these celebrations with our customers.
“The Anniversary Tea Party event will be a wonderful way to mark the occasion with the people who matter most to us.”
Supporting the local community and charities has been at the heart of their philosophy for more than 85 years, says the Squire’s family.
Continuing this support, there will be a raffle at the event, for the centres’ current Charity of the Year, CLASP Wokingham, who will also be in attendance.
Acquired by Squire’s in 2019, The Wokingham garden centre was once part of a farm selling fruit to supermarkets.
Today, Squire’s Wokingham stocks a wide range of plants, garden products, garden furniture, barbecues, and gifts, with a team able to offer expert advice.
The centre’s cafe bar, two food halls, and on-site award-winning JL Butchers, offer customers a wide range of foods, with a special focus on local produce, often sourced from suppliers across Berkshire, Surrey and Hampshire.
There are 16 Squire’s Garden Centres across Surrey, Sussex, Berkshire, North and West London, but customers can also shop online for local delivery within a 5-7 mile radius of their garden centres.
Founded by D.J. Squire in 1936, the business initially focused on landscape gardening, but became one of the first garden centre businesses in the UK when Squire’s in Twickenham opened in 1964.
D.J.’s son, Colin Squire OBE, is still actively involved in the business, alongside his daughter, Sarah Squire.
The five year anniversary tea party will take place at Squire’s Wokingham, Heathlands Road, on Tuesday, July 23, at 3.30pm.
Tickets cost £20 per person, and include a glass of fizz and afternoon tea.
They can be booked online or in-store, with gluten-free and vegan alternatives available.
