Former Wycombe Wanderers player Joe Jacobson could be set to play a pivotal role at Reading Football Club if Rob Couhig completes a takeover.
It is believed that Cough is currently the frontrunner to finalise a deal to buy the club from current owner Dai Yongge.
Couhig is reportedly keen on bringing the Wycombe legend to Reading to take up a senior role in the boardroom, such as chief executive.
The current chief executive at the club is Dayong Pang who has been an unpopular figure under Dai Yongge’s ownership.
Jacobson – who retired from professional football in the summer – became a legendary player at Wycombe following a 10-year spell with the Chairboys.
The Welsh defender made a total of 400 appearances in all competitions for Wycombe and netted 44 goals.
His first four seasons with Wycombe were in League Two before the team won promotion to League One for the 2017/18 campaign.
They then went another step further as Jacobson helped them to a play-off final victory under manager Gareth Ainstworth in 2019/20 and they spent one season in the Championship before being relegated.
Jacobson was also the club’s top scorer with 12 goals during their promotion winning campaign in 19/20.
Despite not being experienced in off the field matters, it is believed that Couhig is determined to bring Jacobsen to the Royals having built a strong bond with the player during their time together.
After leaving Wycombe at the end of April, Jacobson said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Don’t be sad that it’s over, be happy that it happened. Incredibly proud to have made my 400th and final appearance for this wonderful football club.”
