Celebrations took place last week after GCSE students across Wokingham borough collected their results, with 77.5% achieving grades 9 to 4 in English and Maths.
Teachers were on hand to celebrate the year 11’s achievements. and offer information, guidance and advice on next steps and support for any alternative education and skills routes to success for young people.
More than 2,000 students received their results in Wokingham Borough, and outperformed the national averages in the core subjects of English and Maths – with 82.2% achieving a grade 9 to 4 in English and 83% achieving a grade 9 to 4 in Maths.
Numbered grades have been replacing letters over the past few years, with 9 being broadly equivalent to an A* and 4 broadly equivalent to a C, the lowest pass grade.
Cllr Prue Bray, executive member for children’s services, said: “After months of studying and hard work, I want to congratulate students collecting their GCSE results today, what an amazing achievement.
“With the support of parents, carers, friends, wider family networks and of course schools once again our young people have achieved fantastic results, both for themselves and beating national averages.
