A WOKINGHAM mother says she wants to give something back to the charity that helped her when she was struggling to cope in the early days after the birth of her twin babies.
Alice, who has five children including the twins, has challenged herself to swim 10 kilometres with the aim of raising £1,000 for Home-Start Wokingham District.
“This amazing charity helped us recently when we became a family of five,” she said.
“Jennie, our volunteer, came once a week over a period of six months, for a couple of hours to give us a helping hand.
“She helped out around the house, held sleeping babies, came food shopping with me (surprisingly difficult with two babies and only single trolleys) and gave a listening ear over a cuppa.”
Inspired by the positive impact Home-Start had on her family, Alice decided to take on the ambitious 10km swim to raise money for the charity.
“I’d love to give something back,” she said.
“Jennie, our volunteer, has been invaluable in the early months with our twins.”
Her sponsored swim not only serves as a personal challenge but also as a platform to raise awareness about Home-Start’s work in the community.
Alice hopes to inspire others to support the charity, enabling more families to benefit from their services.

Having twins is just one many reasons they offer support.
The organisation provides ‘compassionate and non-judgmental support in families’ homes, offering emotional and practical support, encouragement and guidance’.
Through weekly visits, its volunteers work alongside parents, building relationships based on trust and friendship, helping them give their children a better start in life.
On November 9 Alice will take part in Marathon Swims 2024, at the London AquaticsCentre for Home Start Wokingham District, and hopes people will support her fundraising challenge.
