IT’S A great problem to have.
The number of young people wanting to join Scouting groups is growing.
As is the need for volunteer leaders.
The organisation is looking for volunteers to help support children and young people aged four to 17, who currently want to join groups, but can’t.
It says there are lots of opportunities to use people’s skills and to learn new ones, volunteering with any of the sections or performing a background role.
These can include being a trustee, looking after finances, IT, fundraising, and administration.
Adult volunteer Nigel, said: “Volunteering with Scouts is a great opportunity to help young people learn and develop skills along with having fun and trying out new activities.
“It’s also a great opportunity to learn and develop new skills yourself, make friends, try new activities and take pride in seeing young people develop.
“As volunteers we can help put the foundations in place.
“We then encourage the children and young people to build upon them as they try new activities and learn skills for life.
“Children and young people want adventure and we provide the opportunity to have those adventures.”
Scouting sections are Squirrels (aged four to six), Beavers (aged six to eight), Cubs (aged eight to 10), Scouts (aged 10 to 14) and Explorers (aged 14 to 17).
The Scouting movement is an inclusive organisation, with all sections open to boys and girls.
