WITH one in 100 people in the UK and Europe now being diagnosed as gluten-intolerant, it is no wonder that we are starting to see a shift in our eating culture.
Where once you would only see vegetarian alternatives offered on a restaurant’s menu, more and more frequently we now see the letters ‘GF’ (gluten free) appearing next to dishes.
But one restaurant in Wokingham is going one step further and has introduced an entire gluten-free menu for its Coeliac and gluten-intolerant customers., as well as those who are opting for a healthier gluten-free lifestyle.
The Broad Street Tavern, which is part of the Wadworth chain, now offers a comprehensive and tantalising gluten-free menu, consisting of starters, mains, light bites, desserts and even a golden ale to suit a gluten-intolerant diet.
As part of Coeliac Awareness Week (May 8 to 14), the pub has launched its new menu which features well-loved dishes such as chicken fajitas and beef burgers, and tempting desserts such as chocolate brownie sundae and sticky toffee pudding all being given a gluten-free makeover, there really is something to cater for every taste.
And it doesn’t stop with the food, as Wadworth has launched its own 6X Gold, a gluten-free golden ale, a hoppy and refreshing golden ale which ticks all of the boxes for a gluten-free lifestyle.
Following the ale’s launch, Wadworth CEO Chris Welham said: “This is a great twist on our classic 6X beer. We’re especially proud to see 6X Gold beer being recognised by foodies but also Coeliac UK and thrilled by the certification from the charity.”
The ale, along with a full gluten-free menu, is now available at all of Wadworth’s 47 managed houses, with all staff receiving Coeliac UK-approved training to ensure they understand and deliver a first-class service to their gluten-free patrons.
