Brian Blessed, of the UK’s best-loved actors, has returned to a theatre in Sonning, but he will be sat in the director’s chair for Spider’s Web.
Exactly one year after directing Agatha Christie’s The Hollow at The Mill at Sonning, Brian Blessed is returning to the dinner theatre with another Christie classic.
Blessed became a fan of the Queen of Crime after meeting her back in 1958, and learned that Spider’s Web was her favourite play.
The play was turned into a television movie in 1982, directed by Basil Coleman and starring Penelope Keith and Robert Flemyng.
Spider’s Web is described as a ‘comedy thriller’ involving all the hallmarks of a classic Christie mystery: murder, police, drug addicts, invisible ink, hidden doorways and secret drawers.
Clarissa, played by Melanie Gutteridge, is adept at spinning tales of adventure but when a murder takes place in her drawing room she finds live drama much harder to cope with.
Desperate to dispose of the body before her husband arrives with an important foreign politician, Clarissa enlists the help of her guests to become accessories and accomplices.
Hilarity ensues when they are interrupted by the arrival of wry detective, Inspector Lord (played by Noel White).
Slowly but surely, the web of deceit becomes even more tangled…

Starring several actors who appeared in 2016’s performance of The Hollow (Alexander Neal, George Telfer and Noel White), Spider’s Web is set to leave you spinning!
Spider’s Web opened at The Mill at Sonning on Thursday, July 6 and runs until September 9.
Evening shows run from Tuesday to Saturday, with Thursday matinees every week, excluding August 31 and September 7; Saturday matinees every week; and Sunday matinees on July 16, 23 and 30, and September 3.
Tickets start from £46, which include a two-course meal in the restaurant before the show.
