Storm Eleanor has seen power cuts across Wokingham borough with a number of homes affected. And some parts will not see their electricity restored until this afternoon.
Overnight, heavy rain and fierce winds buffeted the UK causing the power cuts.
The Met Office has a yellow warning in place for today, noting: “power cuts and disruption to other services (mobile phones for example) may also occur, while injuries from flying debris are possible”.
A number of RG40 postcodes saw power switched off just after 2am this morning, and Scottish and Southern Electric (SSE), which looks after the electricty in the borough, is warning that the power may not be back on until 2.45pm this afternoon (Wednesday, January 3).
The affected postcodes are:
- RG40 4HU
- RG40 4PP
- RG40 4PR
- RG40 4PS
- RG40 4PT
- RG40 4PY
- RG40 4QA
- RG40 4QB
- RG40 4QD
- RG45 6LG
A note from SSE on its website said: “We apologise for the loss of supply. We currently have a fault affecting the areas listed. Our engineers are on site working to get the power back on as quickly as they can.
“If you need more information, please call us on 0800 072 7282 and quote reference ‘CY8098’.”
There is also a report of a fallen tree affecting traffic in Earley.
Reading Buses tweeted to warn that there are delays on its Orange 19 route this morning:

Trains seem to be running smoothly, although the 8.37am train from London Waterloo to Reading, which was due to arrive in Reading at 9.55am has been cancelled due to a train fault. 09:55 will be cancelled.
