TRESPASSERS on the railway line between Reading and Bracknell caused South Western Railway services to be suspended this evening, causing chaos for rush hour as commuters return home.
They have now been cleared and services are starting to return to normal. However, there may be delays until 8pm.
A passenger who is stuck on a train between Reading and Wokingham told The Wokingham Paper: “Wokingham trains have been held up due to kids throwing stones from the bridge.
“The electric has been turned off and the trains aren’t moving.”
This has yet to be confirmed by South Western Railway, however, they have said in an update for travellers: “Due to trespass on the railway between Bracknell and Reading all lines are blocked.”
As a result, the railway company is warning that train services running to and from these stations are being cancelled or delayed.
They are expecting the disruption to services to continue until 8pm.
In a statement, South Western Railway said: “Our control centre has received reports of an ongoing trespass incident between Bracknell and Reading. In order to ensure the safety of the trespasser, and of all trains, passengers and crews, all trains in this area have to stop and will be at a stand until a safe operating environment has been re-established.
“The power supply may also have to be isolated in order that the British Transport Police may conduct their work of removing the trespasser safely.
“British Transport Police have been advised of this incident and are en-route to safely remove the trespasser from the railway.”
