SNOW is to sweep across the country today but there is uncertainty as to whether it will hit Wokingham borough – but more snow is forecast for Thursday.
The Met Office has updated its forecasts for the next three days as more accurate computer modelling starts to show what will happen.
The snow predicted on Sunday has pushed north, leaving Wokingham borough with a forecast of sleet and rain from around 5pm.
The Met office said that rain will sweep in from Wales and northern England, before heading eastwards.
As it does so, it will turn to snow, first on hills and then in low levels in places.
Although rain is forecast for Wokingham it could easily turn to snow if the temperatures and conditions are right.
The Met Office says that a patchy covering of 1cm to 2cm (just under an inch) is possible and there is still the risk of up to four inches (10cm), although some places will see no snow at all.
But it is what will happen when the band of rain or snow passes: as skies clear overnight, ice is likely to form, which will make tomorrow morning’s rush hour tricky.
There is currently more chance of snow hitting Wokingham borough on Thursday’s evening rush hour.
As with Sunday’s forecast, this could change between now and Thursday, and we will keep you updated.
Thick clouds will form from around 3pm on Thursday, January 31.
This currently will become heavy snow from around 6pm and continue through the night, with temperatures around freezing – although windchill means that it will feel a lot colder.
The snow eases as we go into Friday, eventually stopping before dawn breaks.
Temperatures during the day will be close to freezing, with windchill making it feel around -3ºC.
A similar forecast is currently in place for Saturday.
There are no weather warnings in place for Thursday, Friday or Saturday as of yet, but this could change as the forecasts get firmed up.
