READING VETERANS will head to Camberley on Saturday for a testimonial match to honour former player and coach Richard Jones.
Jones, who played for Camberley until last season having previously represented Reading at youth level, died in September last year after suffering a brain haemorrhage.
His family, from Twyford, set up a trust in Richard’s name with funds raised this weekend going that.
The game kicks off 1.15pm at Watchetts Recreation Ground. Anyone wishing to pledge a donation or give prizes for the raffle which will take place should contact [email protected].
Meanwhile, Reading’s first team made it three wins in a row at the weekend with a 22-16 victory at Wallingford.
Trailing 10-5 at half-time, the visitors responded after the break with Chris Greig scoring the winning try.
After an even opening, Reading took the lead just past the half hour mark with an unconverted try in the corner courtesy of Will Proctor-Searle, latching onto Grant Spears’ kick.
But Wallingford ended the half strongly, scoring twice in the closing stages following good work from the pack.
Reading were first to score after the restart with Proctor-Searle again crossing the whitewash, only for a Wallingford penalty to keep them just ahead.
The visitors then began to slowly dominate possession and they moved 15-13 ahead with Alex Watson crossing off a driving maul.
The lead was then extended when Greig stretched over and despite a late penalty from the hosts, Reading held on for a victory which pushes them 20 points clear of the bottom two.
They will look to make it four games in a row at home against Aylesbury on Saturday.
