THE BOROUGH’S re3 Partnership is developing a new Waste Management Strategy for 2026–2031 – and wants to hear residents’ views.
It has launched a public consultation to help it to develop a new waste management strategy that will affect services from 2026 to 2031.
The partnership is made up of three councils; Bracknell Forest Council, Reading Borough Council, and Wokingham Borough Council, which work together to manage household waste and recycling for their respective areas.
Their future strategy will guide how they each reduce waste, improve recycling and deliver services that are cost-effective, environmentally sustainable and responsive to residents’ needs.
The strategy also looks at the upgrading of recycling centres and the handling of new materials like flexible plastics.
Managing waste across the re3 area (Wokingham, Reading and Bracknell Forest), costs around £32 million a year, with an average household cost of approximately £150 per year, says the partnership.
Despite recycling services already available, up to 55% of what residents put in their general waste bins and 83% of what’s treated as non-recyclable waste at re3 Recycling Centres could be recycled instead.
The group says that improving waste management can help protect the environment and free up funding for other services.
