WOKINGHAM’S town centre is looking a little tidier this week, thanks to the efforts of a host of volunteers.
Fifteen Litter Heroes gathered outside Wokingham Town Hall on Saturday morning to help pick up waste thrown by inconsiderate people.
The team tackled a range of areas considered to be litter hot spots including Broad Street Walk, the area by the Food Bank off Broad Street and the area behind Erftstadt Court.
The team also visited Howard Palmer Gardens and collected what they could find in Peach Street, Denmark Street, Rose Street and Broad Street.
And, if that wasn’t enough, they went along the footpath from Wellington Road to the railway footbridges and looked for litter in Station Approach.
Wokingham Town councillor, Tony Lack, helped organise the event.
He said: “There were 15 of us in the end including two youngsters.
“In all, we collected around 20 bags of litter. t was mostly waste created by eating and drinking on the street, but there were also a couple of needles.
“A new vacuum the Town Council has bought was put to use to pick up cigarette ends and shattered glass from Red Lion Path down to The Raglan and back up the far side to The Roebuck.”
