A LEISURE retailer has started advertising for staff for a new Wokingham branch which is due to open next month.
The firm specialises in equipment for hiking, camping, skiing, cycling, running and fitness and has more than 240 branches across the globe.
However, although Mountain Warehouse is recruiting, the council is still in negotiations with them about opening a store in the new Peach Place development.
Mountain Warehouse has been advertising for an assistant manager, supervisors, part-time sales assistant roles including 16 hours and 10 hours a week.
The job vacancy notice states: “In this role you’ll be providing outstanding service to customers by offering advice and direction based on their needs, be it a jacket for walking the dog or an upcoming expedition! You will help to keep the store neat, full of our product and visually attractive.
“The ideal applicant will have worked in a customer facing experience before. However, if you embrace hard work, enjoy being part of a team and strive to always make things bigger and better then we would like to hear from you!”
Last week, Cllr Philip Mirfin, executive member for regeneration, told a meeting of Wokingham Borough councillors that he would soon be announcing another seven tenants “that are currently in the hands of our solicitors” and that two high street fashion retailers were in talks to move in.
Peach Place is due to open next month and includes a mixture of independent retailers including record store Beyond The Download and gin bar The Leafy Elephant as well as the already open GAIL’s bakery and Waterstones.
Cllr Philip Mirfin, executive member for regeneration, said: “We are aware that Mountain Warehouse are advertising for staff and we can confirm that we have been in discussions with them about a unit at Peach Place.
“They are a strong leisure brand with a large local following who have been keen to open in the area for some time and are very much aligned with our vision for an improved mix of businesses in the town centre.
“Wokingham continues to buck the national trend and remains a very attractive destination to trade. Many of Peach Place units are already under offer to a range of great independent and national businesses.
“We’ve already announced several of these and look forward to confirming more names as they start fitting out their new units ready to open soon.”
Mountain Warehouse has been contacted for a comment.
