THAMES Valley Kings have been nominated for the Club of the Year at the national Wheelchair Basketball Awards.
The annually held Richard Langhorn Trust Wheelchair Basketball Awards, hosted by the sport’s national governing body, British Wheelchair Basketball, will Thames Valley Kings hoping to succeed with silverware with three nominations in total.
The Kings were awarded with the prestigious Club of the Year award in 2016 and will be hoping to be crowned with the accolade again in 2019 having been shortlisted for the award.
The club may also have cause to celebrate some individual success as their two of their players have also been shortlisted for awards. Kings Junior Liam Barker has been shortlisted for the Rising Star (Junior Player of the Year) for the third consecutive season.
Barker enjoyed another excellent season as captain of the league winning Division Two South team and as a result has been acknowledged by British Wheelchair Basketball. He has also been invited to the under 22’s GB men’s trials, taking another step towards achieving his dream of representing Great Britain at the Paralympic Games.
Pete Scoins has also picked up another shortlisting for Volunteer of the Year, having also won the accolade in 2016 for his continued hard work both on and off the court. The awards night will take place on Saturday.
