Temperatures have plunged and with energy bills at an all-time high, knowing how to stay warm and save energy has never mattered more. We want to help you stay warm and save money, both long and short term. That is why we have collated the best tips from the most trusted sources, so you have everything you need in one place.

Quick tips to save money on your energy bills today

Taking small actions to stay warm and save money is easier than you might think. Below are some tips that we probably wouldn’t think twice about but can have a significant impact on our energy savings.

No more standby! – you can save around £65 a year¹ just by remembering to turn your appliances off standby mode.

Turn off your lights! – By turning lights off when you’re not using them, can save around £25 a year². Think about replacing all the lights in your home with LED bulbs which could help you save even more.

Avoid the tumble dryer – dry clothes on racks inside to save £70 a year³

Spend less time in the shower – keeping your shower time to just four minutes could save a typical household £95 a year on their energy bills*

Appliances

When you’re buying a new appliance for your home, look out for its energy label. The energy label tells you how much energy that appliance uses, comparing it to similar appliances. This can help you find appliances that use the least amount of energy.

More tips can be found on the energy savings tip website.

Your long-term guide to an energy efficient home

Below are some long-term tips that can help when it comes to having a more energy efficient home.

Draught-proofing

Draught-proofing involves blocking up and sealing gaps that let cold air into the home and let warm air out, while ensuring adequate ventilation and fresh air. These gaps can be present in many different areas of the home, from cracks in skirting boards to gaps in windows and doors. Draught-proofing around windows and doors could save you around £60 a year**

Insulation

If you want to reduce your carbon emissions and keep your energy bills low, installing insulation will reduce heat loss. Think of this as a long-term investment. Whilst each household will have different needs, the most common insulation is Solid wall (sometimes known as EWI), Loft and Cavity wall.

Savings will vary depending on the size of your home.

Find out more information on our website regarding home insulation, and how it can benefit you, Call us on 0800 526 023 or visit our website at www.instagroup-homes.co.uk

All savings in this guide are for a typical three-bedroom, gas-heated home in Great Britain, using a gas price of 10.3p/kWh and electricity price of 34p/ kWh (based on energy price guarantee October 2022).
