A FOOTPATH closure has been given the go-ahead, allowing Henley’s annual festival to once again take place in Wokingham borough.
The celebration of music, comedy and food is set to return to Remenham, in the northernmost part of the borough, this summer.
To go ahead safely, permission is needed to close the riverside footpath on a temporary basis.
Introducing it, Cllr Ian Shenton, the executive member for leisure, said: “Due to the previously contentious nature of the closures in some quarters, it was historically escalated to an executive decision whereas public rights of way closures are normally an officer decision.”
He proposed that the closure decision should, in future years, be delegated back to council officers in consultation with the then current executive member for the environment.
Cllr Prue Bray excused herself from the vote.
“The Open Spaces Society has objected, and I’m a member, so I will leave the room,” she said.
A vote approved the closure.
