A GROUP of morris men who indulged in their Christmas traditions has been able to share in their good fortune.
Every year, members of Yateley Morris Men perform a Mummers play in the pubs around Wokingham.
Performed for centuries, it sees Santa defeat an evil king in a sword fight, with much merriment in between.
They toured pubs before Christmas and then performed at The Queen’s Oak in Finchampstead and the Dog & Partridge in Yateley on Boxing Day.
At the end of each performance, they asked audiences for donations.
In all, £500 was given and last week this was presented to the Yateley Pantry, a community food share.
The charity’s CEO, Sheldon Mulligan, said: “Thank you so much for your donation, it is much appreciated.
“We rely heavily on volunteers and donations to keep the pantry going, so we are very grateful to you.
“Our Community Pantry helps over 500 families in the area and your donation will help us continue to provide much needed support for those who need it most.”
Sheldon said the money would help with the cost of fitting a new kitchen to allow a community cafe to be created.
“This, in partnership with our new Community Allotment, will help create a cycle of fresh seasonal food which will further help and support the community and reduce food waste,” he said.
