The Dog & Duck pub on Matthewsgreen Road in Emmbrook has the community at the heart of everything it wants to achieve and that comes straight from owners Wesley and Victoria Tunstead, as well as their team of 15 staff.

“We want it to be a community hub,” explained Wesley.
“We love the place, we love the area, we love the building and we love the people who are coming to visit us.
“It’s a family-run business, myself and my wife and our two kids live here and we want people to sense that when they come through the door.”
Wesley and Victoria took over the pub in April this year and have already set about putting their stamp on the place with an exciting new menu.
“We’ve got 100% fresh produce,” said Victoria.
“Everything is freshly made in the kitchen every day, instead of being bought in and reheated.”
The pub also has a full gluten free offering alongside a number of vegetarian and vegan alternatives.
The previous menu was in place for four years but the plan is to update it more frequently with seasonal products sourced from other local businesses, whilst maintaining a core of favourites.
“We like to do traditional pub classics but done really well whilst buying everything as local as possible,” said Wesley.
“You can guarantee the favourites such as bangers and mash and fish and chips. The things you would expect on a good old fashioned pub menu.
“But we do more than just that as we have a few fancier items on there as well.”
In addition to the broad food options, the bar also has a range of craft ales, spirits and soft drinks – usually poured by Victoria and Wesley themselves.
“We are definitely not absent owners,” said Wesley.

“We are pitching in at the front of house, pulling pints, opening the kitchen, serving food, changing barrels and moving kegs.”
Victoria added: “We want a family-friendly environment where everyone gets to know us and we get to know them.”
