A CHURCH opens its doors on Thursdays for people wanting somewhere to go, for a change of scene, and friendship.
The Salvation Army’s group, A Place To Meet, offers crafts and games.
“It’s somewhere to come and socialise, with tea, coffee and snacks throughout the morning,” says community centre manager Marina Brain.
“It’s a happy place and people seem to love coming.
“They really engage with it.”
One of the group’s attendees adds: “I come here to play games.
“Others play scrabble and ludo, but I like draughts.
“And I’ve started to learn how to crochet.
“At the moment it’s me and another gentleman, with lots of women.
“We’re determined to get good at crochet and overtake the ladies’ knitting.
“If you can’t beat them, join them.
“The food’s lovely here, and it’s about getting out of the house.
“You can only watch so much of Good Morning Britain.
A Place To Meet takes place at Wokingham’s Salvation Army every Thursday, from 10am to midday.
A lunch club follows at 12.30, with a two course meal available for £3.50.
Lunches need to be booked at least 24 hours before.
