A WOKINGHAM Church keen to bring eco groups together held an Earth Fayre at the weekend.
Visitors to All Saints Church, Norreys, were able to meet with representatives from a range of green organisations, and to hear from speakers on a variety of topics, including how trees help the planet, finding and fixing draughts in the home, what’s happening with the world’s climate, and soil sustainability.
Wokingham Borough Council representative, climate officer Resh Thorpe, also shared the borough’s response to the climate emergency, and how residents can play their part.
Youngsters were able to enjoy making keyrings, friendship bracelets and bug hotels, while outside people were able to work an apple press and take a self paced tour of the churchyard.
Stalls were held by repair cafes from All Saints Church and Lambs Lane, Spencers Wood, and by members of Communal Gardens and Orchard Project, DraughtBusters, Global justice, The Green Party, Involve Community Services, Kiddical Mass, Lavell’s Wetland Trust, Maya’s Refillables, Mini Nature Artists, Path Financial Ltd, People Planet Pint, Climate Fresk, Quench Christian Bookshop, Reading Friends of The Earth, and ThermaDetect Ltd.
Around 200 people stepped inside All Saints Church to hear about green initiatives in the borough.
Maya from Wokingham store Maya’s Refillables, said: “We’ve had a good turnout today, and it’s exciting to see that people are beginning to talk about the issues.
“I’m finding that I’m invited to attend more and more events like this one, which is great.
“I’ve actually had to hire two more people to help run my shop as a result.”
All Saints Church is a silver level Eco Church, whose Climate Matters team organises events and projects to support greener living.
