WOKINGHAM Theatre’s final offering of the season is Shakespeare In Love.
It’s a mammoth show that promises to bring the life and magic of London’s Globe playhouse to the provinces.
Based on the film that starred Gwyneth Paltrow as Viola, and Joseph Fiennes as Will Shakespeare, it is colourful, action-packed, and has something for everyone.
People already in love with Shakespeare can savour glimpses of his work and spot the literary jokes that pepper the text.
While those not yet captivated by The Bard can enjoy an exhilarating romp of a story, told in modern prose.
Either way, it promises a feast for the eyes and ears.
Set during the reign of Elizabeth I. the story cleverly weaves aspects of Shakespeare’s works into a comic tale about his life, loves and trials.
“It has been quite a challenge getting this production from page to stage,” said Director Emma Merchant.
“As well as being a great play, Shakespeare In Love presents an enormous problem solving exercise.
“With 34 named characters, 24 scene changes, 50 costumes, live music, and a dog required, everyone in the company has been pushed to their creative limits.
“Fortunately Wokingham Theatre is filled with extraordinary teams of people who love to rise to just this kind of challenge.
“We think you’ll enjoy the results of their combined talents.”
‘All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players’ wrote Shakespeare.
For an evening of joyful energy, creativity, and a stage bursting to the seams with players, audiences should make their way to Wokingham Theatre.
Shakespeare In Love runs from Thursday, July 20, through to Saturday, July 29, with the exception of Sunday.
Doors open at 7.45pm. with tickets available for £15.
