ART and coffee came together for a fundraising event in Shinfield on Saturday.
Mike Hibbert, a member of Shinfield Community Church in Fairmead Road, organised the event to help boost the coffers of the church’s rebuilding project.
The group are hoping to renovate and rebuild its chapel, complete with housing to help people moving out of rehabilitation and back into the community. The project will cost around £1 million.
The event allowed Mike to showcase some of his many paintings, some of which were bought by visitors.
There was also a community cafe running in the morning.
“We really enjoyed it,” he said. “People came down, had a drink and a cake or two.
”They enjoyed seeing the art. There was quite a wide variety in the types of pictures on show, including drawings and several other mediums.”
He continued: “We had a steady stream of visitors throughout the day, people bought or made donations. We had some very generous gifts.”
The event raised around £500 which will buy a few bricks for the new building.
“It’s great to be able to use my talents to help the church,” he said, adding with a chuckle. “It’s a two-way thing. It helps the church and I get some kudos at the same time.”
