SPECIAL limited edition pieces of art from an artist preparing to create a unique sculpture for Wokingham are among the rewards for people backing a crowdfunding campaign.
Arts4Wokingham is raising money for the installation of The Arc, a landmark installation for outside the Carnival leisure hub in Wokingham town.
Devised by Nicola Anthony, the sculpture will act as a gateway to the new development.
Drawing upon her signature style, she will identify meaningful words and phrases which will be cut out and profiled within the steel arches themselves. A braille element will be included, together with lighting, which will enable The Arc to be seen and appreciated in a variety of different ways.
Nicola Anthony’s work aims to create art which tells powerful stories, connecting with history, people and places.
A commission for Steven Spielberg’s Shoa Foundation was distinguished by Spielberg unveiling the work himself and observing, “Your art has the power to plumb the depths of my soul.”
Nicola has been invited all over the world to work with NGOs, art institutions and cultural research bodies.
She has been shortlisted for both the Sovereign Art Prize and the Sovereign Asian Art Prize.
Being willing to create this showcase sculpture is a major coup for Arts4Wokingham.
To help get the funding over the line, it invited Ms Anthony to create some smaller pieces that can be offered as rewards to backers of the project.
They include a unique metal text sculpture featuring chosen words encased in a bell jar, sketches of soundwaves taken from voice recordings, and some limited edition prints inspired by Ms Anthony’s research into arcs and spirals.
An Art Patron Kit will offer exclusive access to talks, openings and exhibitions and a small signed print.
The crowdfunding campaign launches on Saturday, October 1, and rewards will be available while stocks last.
