The Berkshire South East branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) will be holding its inaugural Wokingham “Ale Trail” to showcase Wokingham’s best real ale serving pubs. and encourage members of the public to visit them.
The way it works is for ‘Ale Trailers’ to visit all the designated pubs, buy a pint and be given a sticker for their sticker sheet to confirm their visit.
Those collecting the full set get a reward of a customised enamel Ale Trail badge. These badges are much sought after in the CAMRA community.
The Trail will be launched in issue 2 of the Berkshire wide CAMRA magazine, “Pubs and Pints” with the specific aim to attract newcomers to Wokingham. This will be available in late May.
The Ale Trail has the following key objectives: –
-
Increase footfall into the participating pubs by creating a buzz and boosting their publicity at a time when pubs across the country are struggling.
-
Showcase the best real ale pubs in the area, hopefully, enticing visitors from further afield to return after the trail has finished.
-
It is expected that some of the visitors brought in by the Ale Trail will take the opportunity to try other non-participating pubs, and to give trade to local shops and other businesses.
There will be a launch event on June 7 at The Queens Head, Wokingham.
The culmination of the Ale Trail will be a final social event on July 12 to be held at The Crispin, Wokingham, recently judged Pub of the Year for Berkshire South-East.
This will be a celebration with Ale Trailers receiving their badges.
