Wokingham Town’s promising start to the season continued last weekend with another cup victory.
Saturday’s 0-3 win on the road in the Isuzu FA Vase in south Gloucestershire at Bitton saw goals from Harrison Bayley, Monay Mills-Chandler and Joe Allchurch.
The Sumas fielded two players that had previously reached the Wembley final in that competition. Bayley won a winners medal with Thatcham Town, while Sean Moore captained Binfield to their appearance in the showpiece event.
That win earned £550 in competition prize money, and a potentially lucrative home tie in the next round against Hellenic League Cinderford Town on September 20.
On Monday evening, the Sumas earned a useful point from a 0-0 draw against high-flying Windsor & Eton, although the lack of any significant goalscoring opportunities was a worry.
Woodley United were also in FA Vase action last weekend, and exited the competition with a 0-1 defeat against Hallen.
Reading City were in Combined Counties league action on Monday, and lost by a single goal at Wallingford & Crowmarsh.
This weekend sees the opening round of fixtures in the Thames Valley Premier League.
Highlights include Wargrave facing Henley Town at their new Cantley Park home, while Reading YMCA host Finchampstead at The Cauldron in Padworth.
