The British Legion poppy appeal in Wokingham has received a welcome boost ahead of this year’s campaign.
Appeal organiser David Dunham had been searching for premises in the town as a base to collect funds and sell merchandise.
This week coffee and sandwich shop Pret has offered the use of a unit in the centre of Wokingham.
The shop, opposite the town hall at the entrance to Bush Walk, has been rented by Pret with the intention of opening, however issues relating to planning for the listed building appear to have stalled those ambitions.
Pret has granted the use of the property to the appeal. It is expected to open on Saturday, October 26, and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays prior to November 11.
David Dunham told Wokingham Today: “I am extremely thankful to Pret for the use of their property.
“This is a high-profile location in town, and I hope it will help us towards out target of beating the more than £80,000 we raised in last year’s campaign.”
The appeal is still seeking volunteers to help with collections at supermarkets around the town, in the town centre, and in Winnersh.
The appeal can also provide collection tins and poppy merchandise to companies.
