WOKINGHAM MP – and staunch Leaver – Sir John Redwood has this morning blasted his fellow Parliamentary colleagues who back remaining in the EU, accusing them of ‘pathetic whining’ and ‘letting people down’ over quitting Europe.
And he said that due to the delaying of Article 50, meaning the UK will not leave Europe on Friday, March 29, “Parliament has declared war on the people”.
He added: “The war can only be ended if we leave the EU on 29 March with no Withdrawal Agreement”.
The veteran MP published the incendiary new blog post hours before more than a million people gathered in London to take part in the Put It To The People march. Protesters include Reading East MP Matt Rodda, who is backing a fresh referendum and will speak on a platform that includes Labour’s deputy leader Tom Watson.
Sir John said: “The public has been very patient as two years and eight months have passed without fulfilling the promise to take control of our borders, our laws and our money.
“Parliament has endlessly re-run the arguments of the referendum as if we had not done all that in the campaign and come to a decision.
“MPs against Brexit have been patronising or dismissive of Leave voters.”
Sir John has long argued that the UK would benefit from leaving Europe, and he restated some of the reasons while he felt this would be a good move. They include taking back control of fishing grounds, taxes, borders and money.
“I want that Brexit bonus budget in April,” he said, adding that by leaving the EU, it would be possible to remove VAT from “female sanitary products, domestic fuel and green products”.
“We need to leave to create an independent democracy in our islands. We did not vote leave to achieve some changes to our trading arrangements. We voted leave to govern ourselves, to throw off the yoke of Brussels government,” he added.
Concluding, Sir John said: “These Remain MPs are letting the people down badly.
“They blame the public for bravely choosing freedom.
“They lack any vision of the better future that beckons.
“Their pathetic whining of how our country will be worse if they take responsibility from the EU tells us more about their inadequacies than about the bold vision of the people.
