Dear Evan,
Brilliant job tonight.
I’m stunned how you managed to cover the main topics.
So well, so quickly.
Makes my 650 word commentaries for a provincial weekly in Wokingham look easy by comparison.
One sincerely hopes that matters stay stable enough tomorrow so that your 8:30 special can help the process of working out what “we” means & what the political classes do about things.
After your broadcast tonight, it isn’t just that the EU that needs reform as I’d concluded in this morning’s piece, but that UK partisan politics needs reform – and fast.
Otherwise, today’s Power Plays look like they will set us all down the same path as Sarajevo did a century ago.
Please make sure that your producers have learned the lesson from Jeremy Paxman’s experience on that Final Debate & that they control the microphones better.
Also that the participants set a behavioural standard that proves they’ve learned something from their collectively abysmal behaviour during the EU Referendum debates.
It is up to you and Andrew Marr to help the process. Not put more chum in the waters to encourage an even bigger feeding frenzy.
Saturday and Sunday are a golden moment for you both, as well as for the BBC, the country and the European Union.
In 2016, a weekend is a long time in politics.
I wish you well.
Kind regards,
Tony.
