READING EAST MP Matt Rodda is one of a number of shadow cabinet members who will be addressing crowds attending today’s Put It To The People anti-Brexit march in London.
He joined members of Berkshire For Europe at Reading Station this morning as they headed off to the capital to take part in the protest.
More than a million people are expected to take part in the day’s rally – and now more than 4 million people have signed a petition on the Government’s website aimed at revoking Article 50, keeping the UK in the EU. If the rate of signatures continues, later today it will become the biggest ever petition hosted on the website.
Mr Rodda will be rubbing shoulders with Labour’s deputy leader Tom Watson, who announced his support for the People’s Vote campaign last night, and London mayor Sadiq Khan.
Also taking part will be former Conservative deputy prime minister Lord Heseltine and Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon. A number of celebrities will also be speaking.
Other Labour shadow cabinet members speaking today include Clive Lewis, Rosena Alin Khan, Marsha de Cordova, Luke Pollard, Rachael Maskell and Steve Reed.
The Wokingham Paper has tried to find pro-Brexit events taking place locally today but failed. Yesterday there was an attempt ‘go slow’ blockade on parts of the M4 to the west of the country, but police stopped drivers on grounds of safety.
There is an ongoing Leave Means Leave march from Sunderland to the capital, which is being attended by tens of people, but this is not coming close to Berkshire.
