CANDLES burning at a house in Bracknell had neighbours fearing the property was actually alight on Wednesday night.
Fire crews from both the town’s station and Wokingham raced over to an address in Bevan Gate after the alarm was raised at approximately 7.30pm.
On arrival, however, the pumps soon discovered what looked to be a blaze was, in fact, actually a number of candles being used to light up the room – although the burning blocks of wax were said to have given off a far more convincing impression of a serious fire.
Although it turned out to be a false alarm, firefighters praised the quick thinking of the member of public who called in the incident, as they would rather attend such situations than people assume nothing has happened.
– Using hose reels and breathing apparatus, a crew from Bracknell also had to tackle a car fire during the early hours of Thursday morning.
The team spent around 30 minutes putting out a Ford Focus which was ablaze along a section of the A329 London Road, close to the junction with New Forest Ride.
The vehicle was discovered alight around 4am and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
No-one was at the scene when the emergency services arrived and a potential arson attack has not been ruled out.
