Two of the country’s foremost experts on succulent plants attracted a steady flow of visitors when they staged a show at Hare Hatch Sheeplands near Twyford on Sunday, September 16.
Among those visitors was 89-year-old John Drew from Wokingham who said: “I read in The Wokingham Paper that Daniel and Joanne Jackson from Ottershaw Nurseries were going to be here today and so I came specially to see them.
“I had a question about succulents for Daniel, which he was able to answer, but then he is a man who knows all the answers on this subject.
“I have followed his success for some time including at the Royal Chelsea Flower Show this year.”
John inherited his first collection of succulents from his mother. It comprised 40 echinopsis in pots.
He now has his own collection of about 70 plants.

Also visiting the show were Ann Dismukes and her son Steve. “We read about the show and so we came along specially to meet Daniel and Joanne,” explained Ann, who has been a reception class teacher at Highlands School in Tilehurst for 22 years.
“I have been buying plants from Sheeplands for 25 years and am also a regular for lunch here. I can remember that when I first bought succulents I was buying them straight from the greenhouse.
“Being able to meet the experts today was an opportunity not to be missed.”
