A WOKINGHAM charity that works to alleviate loneliness and isolation in older people in the borough is looking for adventurous people, and those who want to make a big splash, to join their latest fundraising campaigns.
The Link Visiting Scheme would love more Link Legends to take part in two forthcoming sponsored events:
They are keen to hear from people who would like to join the Wokingham Lions Swimathon at Wokingham Leisure Centre, on Wednesday, July 16, at noon, where teams of 8 swim for their chosen charity.
The Link has six spaces for swimmers keen to support the charity in July.
And for those who’ve always wanted to try skydiving, but who have never had the push they needed, there is an opportunity to have a go.
The Link’s Charity Skydive Day will take place in Salisbury, on Saturday, June 14.
People ready to leap for the Link can experience the thrill of jumping 10,000 feet, for £234 or from 15,000 feet for £313 for charity.
Jumpers will be supported in their fundraising efforts, and will be supplied with a Link t-shirt.
“We urgently need people to join in with both these activities,” said Liz McDaniel, senior fundraising manager at The Link.
“We’re finding that income from grants is becoming much harder to find, while at the same time, demand for our services is going up.
“More than ever we need to fundraise through events like these.
“Last year our chairman John Mallaghan took the leap.”
This year it is a thrill to be shared.
The Link has spaces for 10 very lucky people to be able to experience skydiving.
Every jump, (or lap of the pool) they make will help to support a charity that brings generations together in friendship and shared experiences.
One-to-one befriending, friendship groups, activities, events and long-term projects such as Community Kitchen and Link to Nature all help to provide quality time and focused attention on individuals who can often feel invisible and forgotten.
