A SOCIAL club is in search of an electrician to put the tick tock back into their Coronation Clock.
Binfield Club’s special time piece, located on the wall outside their premises, is a feature of the village.
Several years ago the clock gave up telling the time, and despite the club’s efforts to raise funds to get it fixed, a suitable candidate for the job has not been found.
They are putting out a plea to the borough, and asking any horologists or electricians who might be able to help, to get in touch.
Made in 1953, the clock sits around 30 feet above the ground.
Very visible there, and much loved by villagers, it’s also difficult to access for repairs.
It has a modern digital movement, and the club has all the necessary parts for the repair, with a technical specification available on request for a quote.
“Lots of people are very fond of it,” said club secretary Liz Tibble.
“It’s been here so long, and it means something special to us all.
“It was made to commemorate the Queen’s Coronation, and we’d love to get it repaired.”
The club has approached the BBC to see whether programme makers of its television show, The Repair Shop, might be interested in re-starting the 70 year old clock.
“We’ve written to them, but it looks as though they can probably only do repairs at their location,” said Ms Tibble.
“With our clock being attached to the wall, we think it might need to be mended on site.
“Locals often ask us when it’s going to be fixed.
“They joke that it tells the right time twice a day at the moment.”
Binfield Club regularly holds fundraising events for local good causes.
It can be found in the centre of the village, on the crossroads of Terrace Road and Forest Road.
Anyone who thinks they might be able to fix the clock should email Bryan Stacey Couch at: treasurer@binfieldclub.com, or call Liz Tibble on 01344 420572.
