CAR THIEVES have been active across Wokingham borough, leading to police warning people to lock it or lose it.
Incidents happened within 20 minutes walk of railway stations during the evening and overnight on Sunday, May 19, Monday, May 20, and Tuesday, May 21.
Thames Valley Police said some CCTV images had been received from the public have helped their investigation, and they have some solid leads to follow.
In a statement they said: “The offender is believed to travel into the county by train, to one or other of our local stations, and then to have spent time walking around residential roads trying door handles of cars parked both roadside and on private driveways, and entering, searching and stealing from any vehicle he found insecure.
“It appears that he ignores secure vehicles.
“Among items reported to have been stolen were a Golf bag and full set of clubs.”
Officers encourage residents to fully close car windows and sun roofs and check doors are locked whenever they leave the vehicle unattended, even on a driveway.
Other advice includes avoiding leaving any valuables in the car on display or otherwise.
Thames Valley Police warn that a thief will take a chance that a purse or wallet may have been left in an empty shopping bag, or loose change will be in the pocket of a jacket.
Anyone with information about the car thefts, which also took place in the Sandhurst area, is asked to call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
