- Normal service will resume on January 13, 2020
Leftover Turkey?
This is first Christmas Wokingham Borough residents are able to recycle their food waste — but fitting it into your caddy might seem like a challenge.
- Cut any large food waste items into smaller pieces before putting them into the caddy
- All animals bones can be placed in food waste
- Vegetable peelings and leftovers can also go into the food bin
Wokingham Borough Council are also giving out advice to help residents have a more environmentally-friendly Christmas. They suggest:
- Use paper-based wrapping paper — rather than plastic or metallic-based wrapping paper — as this can go into the black recycling boxes (scrunch it, and if it stays scrunched, it can be recycled)
- Buy loose fruit and vegetables
- Write your shopping list and stick to it
- Use your leftovers from Christmas lunch for meals in the following days
- Recycle your plastic bottles, paper/card, aerosols and food/drink tins
- Break down cardboard boxes to save space and ensure they fit into the recycling box (and keep it dry to make sure it can be recycled)
- Old, unwanted electrical items can be recycled at re3 recycling centres
- Chop up your real Christmas tree, put it into your garden waste bin or take it to our household recycling centres
Recycling centres on Longshot Lane, Bracknell, and Smallmead, Reading will be open for most of the Christmas period.
The only changes include closure on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
They will shut early at 4pm, rather than 8pm on Christmas Eve.
Sarah Hollamby, director for localities and customer service at Wokingham Borough Council said: “Hopefully some of these easy tips will help our residents recycle as much as they can this year and make sure these habits stick in the New Year.”
Residents can also find out their Christmas collection dates on the website www.wokingham.gov.uk (search for “collection days”).
