THE FOUNDER of First Days Children’s Charity recently put herself through a physical challenge to raise money for the organisation she heads.
Emma Cantrell put on her running shoes and completed 100 miles in 10 days, ending her efforts on January 13.
She said: “I don’t think I ever want to see a fizzy sweet again – they’ve been keeping me going during the challenge.
“It was a huge mental battle and I’m proud of my, often silly, brain for getting this done.
“Having said that, I have never taken for granted having the health, time and money to run.”
She explained that many of the families First Days works hard to support, campaign for, and advocate for, do not have that privilege.
“They are battling, exhausted and running mental marathons every day to just survive,” she said.
“My challenge was to run 10 miles a day, every day, for 10 days.
“It was very difficult, but it raised over £2,000 for the charity, so it was well worth it.
“I see it as a privilege to be able to choose to do this sort of challenge and put my body and mind through struggle and difficulty.
“So many people don’t have that choice.”
First Days supports families and children in the borough experiencing financial hardship, providing essentials for children, and peer support, and coaching for parents.
Ms Cantrell thanks her support crew: Ellie Gosling, LInda Heppolette, and Lewis.
