SONNING Golf Club was the venue for a hugely successful fundraising golf day last month.
The Royal Berks Charity held their eighth such event and saw 24 teams compete, raising £16,000 in the process.
The money will go towards the purchase of a Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) machine for the Berkshire Cancer Centre at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading.
The charity said that the SGRT will help improve the way patients receive radiotherapy and will be a huge benefit and the Royal Berkshire Hospital, which will be one of only two NHS Hospitals in England to offer this treatment to patients.
The Royal Berks Charity is very grateful to Jacobs the Jewellers in Reading’s town centre. The firm is marking its 70th year of trading and has pledged to raise £70,000 towards the SGRT.
The annual golf day was the inspiration of the late Chris Harrison, who had been a huge and loyal supporter of the Royal Berks Charity and helped in the past to raise more than £250,000 for the Royal Berkshire Hospital’s ‘Robbie’ the robot for the urology department.
In memory of Chris, the Royal Berks Charity commissioned a memorial trophy in his name and awarded it to the golfer who scores the highest points. This year the trophy was won by Roy Logan.

“The money raised will hugely benefit our patients and I would like to thank everyone and our sponsors Jacobs for their incredible generosity.”
