A GROUP from Finchampstead Baptist Church transformed a quiet corner of a borough school at the weekend.
As part of the Finchampstead Parish Council litter pick event, people with rakes and secateurs arrived throughout the morning at Gorse Ride Schools.
They were there to tidy up a part of the playground where children can find space for peace and calm during the school day.
Headteacher Eileen Rogers, said: “The garden area had become rather overgrown over the winter, but now it’s looking lovely and tidy.
“Plants have been cut back, and it’s very welcoming.
“The children will be able to use it after Easter as a place to relax, and also to learn.”
Children can read quietly on garden benches, or enjoy watching wildlife at the garden’s bug hotel, bird boxes and feeders.
Most of the garden tidy-up team were from Finchampstead Baptist Church, and included members of the church’s Hong Kong family.
“The garden is quite a big space, and would have been a significant job for our site manager to clear by himself,” said Ms Rogers.
“We’re very grateful to the volunteers.
“They’ve made a huge effort and have left the garden looking fantastic.”
