MEMBERS of a Wokingham dance school performed routines from around the globe when they took to the stage in Bracknell.
1, 2 Step Dance Academy embarked on a journey of cultures in their production of Dancing Around The World, at The Wilde Theatre, South Hill Park.
Their show featured a diverse mix of dance styles and techniques including ballet, tap, modern, national and acro.
An awareness and fundraiser event for Young Epilepsy, the performance raised £600 for the charity.
Dancers aged from three to 18 years performed to an enthusiastic audience, demonstrating the colours and rhythms of Africa, Norway and New Zealand.
“I am incredibly proud of the dancers,” said 1, 2 Step Dance Academy founder and owner Michelle Bolwell.
“Their hard work and commitment was commendable and their joy for dance shone through each performance.
“It was a wonderful weekend that celebrated their development and growth as dancers.
“It takes a lot for these young performers to find the confidence to simply step out onto the stage, let alone dance in front of hundreds, so they should be hugely proud of their achievements.
“Watching the children enjoy the whole event, playing and having fun backstage, forming friendships and growing in confidence is what it is all about and why, as a teacher, I think it is important to create opportunities like this.”
Former students who had grown up through the school since they were three, now aged 19 and 21, returned to be part of the event.
Some were home from university for the weekend, and played key roles as part of the stage crew.
“I am always humbled and honoured that we have created such a special community that even though they no longer attend weekly classes, students still feel part of the dance family,” said Ms Bolwell.
“It is so wonderful to have them come home and interact with the younger children who see that they, too, can in the future be one of the ‘big ones’ and always be a part of the magic.”
Enrolment for the academy is now open to anyone keen to explore a range of dance styles and to share a love for dance.
