Growing up, our house had a field behind it.
Summer evenings spent playing football and as it went dark, lying on the grass staring up into space wondering how far it went; what is at its end; is it all in some huge goldfish bowl?
These are questions the world’s greatest brains have grappled with.
Seeing images from NASA’s New Horizon spacecraft photographing the farthest lump of rock from us ever to be explored, Ultima Thule, 4 billion miles away was exciting at New Year.
As more data comes through, the first surprise was seeing its shape, a snowman!
As we seek to understand our universe with increased knowledge comes self-assurance that because we understand, we are in control.
But while we may know and understand more, at the end of the day the big question remains, why are we here?
Thinking of ourselves as an accident in time and space doesn’t answer the deeper questions of life.
It is when we understand God created the universe and more importantly mankind, that we find purpose and meaning.
The Bible tells us that through Jesus Christ, “all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.”
If we want to find true meaning we need to turn to this Jesus. Find out more by joining us at Christ Church Wokingham for our course: Life Explored.
