A SELF advocacy group for people with learning difficulties is able to take its members out for Christmas lunch thanks to a grant from Wokingham United Charities.
Funding of £1250 from WUC’s Christmas Cheer 2023 programme, means that CLASP Wokingham can celebrate Christmas all together for the first time.
They will enjoy festive lunch at Squires Garden Centre Wokingham on Heathlands Road, with coach transport laid on.
Debs Morrison, CEO of CLASP said: “It’s so lovely to be able to eat out together this Christmas.
“It’s something we have never been able to do before.
“The best we have been able to provide is a Christmas jumper competition.
“We haven’t even sent cards.
“But this year, thanks to WUC’s grant, we can take our members to Squires Wokingham for a two course lunch”.
CLASP will be taking up half the restaurant for their mid December meal, with around 60 members going.
“We are the garden centre’s chosen charity this year, and they are kindly giving us a special discount,” said Ms Morrison.
The funding covers not only the cost of the meal, but coach transport too.
“Not all our members are comfortable using public transport,” explained Ms Morrison.
“Being able to hire a coach means that everyone can get there.
“We’re so grateful to WUC.
“They are a really engaging charity, and so aware of what’s needed in the borough.
“Thanks to their support, we can all celebrate together this year, to share what Christmas means.”
