A FAMILY-friendly day out will help commemorate and remember a pivotal moment in the Second World War.

Members of the Arborfield & Barkham District Royal British Legion will be holding its DDay75 event on Saturday, June 8.

Subtitled Rockin 2 Remember, it is a chance for the Legion to pay tribute to the people from the village – and the troops from The Royal Artillery stationed there – who took part in the D-Day landings. Some units were based here just prior to DDay in June 1944.

Organisers said: “With this in mind we wanted to make sure that we put an event for all the family to remember those who gave their lives as well as raising money for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy appeal.”

The event will feature seven hours of live music including the Arborfield Military Wives Choir, The Tonyx and The Skangsters.

All the groups are donating their time up for free.

Children will enjoy watching the entertainer Fred In The Shed and there will be stalls, a dog show and fun fair rides.

And to help remember the role of the armed forces in D Day, the army will be present and there will also be a Spitfire fly past from the Royal Air Force British Memorial Flight
