Tributes have been paid to a 40-year veteran of Wokingham market who has passed away aged 90.
Edward George Phillips, known by many as Eddie or Ted, was born in Hurst and, for four decades, sold ladies fashion on Wokingham market.
Market trading runs in his family as his son Darren and grand-daughter Laura are current retailers on the market.
In his earlier years, he played as a goalkeeper for Hurst football club. He was also an ardent supporter of Reading football club.
As a keen golfer, he was alo the first person to tee off when Downshire golf course opened in 1973.
He was also a member of Downshire bowls club.
He passed away earlier this month with his wife at his side.
His funeral will take place on February 20, at St James church in Finchampstead at 11am, with his life being celebrated afterwards at Downshire golf club.
The family has requested that any donations to a dementia charity are made through Miles & Daughter funeral directors in Winnersh.
Wokingham town council clerk Katy Hughes expressed her sadness at the news, and passed her condolences to his family and friends.
